It’s that feeling of being your own boss that we’re after in The Cook. It’s that feeling of having complete authority over a situation that would normally be handled by others. It’s that feeling of having the ability to make a deal or the ability to leave a deal unfinished.
Giving a cook a cook’s name, along with some basic cooking tips, sounds like a recipe for a cook’s life. That’s exactly what an experiment at the University of California-Berkeley found. Students were asked to cook some of the stuff they thought they’d never experience. But, in doing so, they found that they weren’t actually cooking anything new. Instead, they found that they were simply doing the work of other people.
